The trouble with brand Ezra

As Ezra Klein exits the Washington Post, an area editor makes a keen observation:

I think this is the thing everyone is ignoring about why the Post isn't funding Ezra's project — he built up Wonkblog but mostly to promote himself, not the Washington Post brand. He didn't establish a Twitter account for the [Wonkblog] site until a few days ago and it still doesn't have a Facebook page. Instead, the site navigation points to his personal accounts. This isn't to denigrate his work, but I think that's a key piece. It was really a failure of the Post to let him do that. The top navigation goes to Ezra's personal accounts, which he'll take with him.

Fair point. And on that note, The New Yorker's John Cassidy had a smart take on why the Post may have been right to let Klein go, in case you missed it.
