Outside, In: Innovative Solutions for an Aging Society

Outside, In: Innovative Solutions for an Aging Society

20151014-_DAW4092

Across the developed world people are living longer. In Europe, the number of people over 65 is expected to double over the next half-century, while the number of people over 80 is expected to triple. The increase in the proportion of elderly people poses challenges to health and social care systems. With governments struggling to rein in spending, the search for cost-effective care solutions is more intense than ever. At the same time, the demand for technologies to improve the quality of life of the elderly has created new business opportunities ‒ the Silver Economy.

How far can telemedicine reduce the need for patients to meet medical professionals face-to-face? Can apps really ensure that patients stick to their medication plans?

This event, the second in POLITICO’s Outside, In series presented by Philips, will bring together health care experts from the public and private sectors to examine the opportunities and solutions technology can provide to address the challenges of an aging population.
