New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wants people to remember that despite all the pomp and circumstance, the Super Bowl is “about the game,” which his state is hosting at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford .

“When the game starts at 6:30 [p.m. EST] and the announcers come on, they are not going to say, ‘Live from New York City,’ because that would be a lie. They may show that skyline that you can see from where the game is actually being played, which is in our state, in the state of New Jersey, so we’re proud to be the host of the game,” Christie said.

He also pointed out that both of the competing teams — the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks — arrived Sunday in the Garden State.

“It was good to sit at home yesterday and watch the two teams arrive. Now, for all my friends in New York, I want to remind you they did not land at LaGuardia Airport, no they didn’t. And God knows they did not land at JFK. They landed at Newark Liberty International Airport,” Christie said Monday at the Boys and Girls Club in Newark, as quoted by CNN.

Both states are hosting festivities in the days leading up to Sunday’s game, but Christie emphasized that despite the extras, it all comes down to the big event.

“The Super Bowl is in New Jersey. Now people can go to New York and have some fun in New York. I’m fine with that. That’s good,” Christie said.

He continued: “They have a few good restaurants over there. They’ve got some theater and some other stuff to do, but, you know, in the end, this is about the game. It’s not about all the other stuff. It’s about the game.”

Christie’s frustrations echo those of a New Jersey lawmaker.

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker said he “passed miffed” after seeing Super Bowl coverage that focused on New York.

“I passed miffed a while ago. I mean this is ridiculous,” Booker said Monday on “Good Day New York.” “I watched the Pro Bowl last night, and so frustrating, every time they talk about the Super Bowl, ‘we’ll see you in New York.’ Well they’re not playing in New York, they’re playing in New Jersey.”
