The campaign arm for House Democrats raised $7.1 million in February — outraising the National Republican Congressional Committee as crucial primary states went to the polls.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ended the quarter with $37 million cash on hand, according to a committee official.

The February fundraising haul brings the DCCC to a total of $13.5 million for the year.

The Republican campaign committee raised $6.3 million in February and has $39 million in cash with eight months to go unti the November election.

House Democrats are mounting an aggressive campaign in 2016 to pick up seats and grow their ranks after languishing deep in the minority.

Strong fundraising from the DCCC could help the party compete in swing districts it has identified as top targets in 2016.

A DCCC aide noted that 1.7 million of the donations are from individuals who gave $200 or less. The aide also noted that nearly 80 percent of the Democratic Caucus has paid dues — essentially donations to the campaign arm — this cycle.
