How/where are you celebrating your birthday and with whom? “My daughters break out in song first thing in the morning, and we eat cake for breakfast. Our other mother-daughter birthday tradition is going to the ballet together. This year I’m also going to rock out at a live Villain & Saint show with my husband, Jeremy, and a group of friends.”

How did you get your start in politics? “Came to Washington after college in California to work on health care access for all. The work is as important as ever.”

What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading now or finished? And why? “I’m up to the 50th reading of the ‘Princesses Wear Pants’ by Savannah Guthrie and Allison Oppenheim — because my 2-year old can’t get enough.”

What is a trend going on in the U.S. or abroad that doesn’t get enough attention? “The impediments to voting rights present a national crisis. This is not a partisan issue — it’s about being a democracy (or not!).”

How is the Trump presidency going? “I marvel at how strong we are as a nation and how people from every corner of our country have been galvanized.”

What’s a fun fact that people in Washington might not know about you? “I am learning to surf with my older daughters — hitting the beach and catching waves with my girls is awesome!”
