Feeding a growing population sustainably by 2050 is a key challenge for governments worldwide. For Europe, this is all the more pressing as the continent is currently dealing with a substantial flow of migrants.

These issues fall in the remit of multiple European policies: common agricultural policy (CAP), migration, development and trade. While these policies are interlinked, they are often pitted against each other.

As the European Commission is reviewing the CAP and launching the ‘Rural Africa Task Force’, POLITICO’s Twitter chat is convening a solution-oriented discussion on how to achieve food security globally in an effort to tackle the root causes in migration.

Key questions to addressed include:

  • How can the EU ensure coherence between its policies on CAP, migration and food systems?
  • How can the EU and governments address the challenge of feeding the growing world population in a sustainable way?
  • How can Europe do more to help developing farming in the whole African continent?
  • How should the EU and Africa share responsibility to improve global food security?
  • Can the CAP reform do more to address these issues and the root causes in migration?
