Pfeiffer: Constitutional amendment may be key to campaign finance reform

White House Senior Adviser Dan Pfeiffer on Sunday blasted the Supreme Court's campaign finance-related McCutcheon decision as "devastating to the public campaign system," adding the only viable long-term answer to the question of money's influence in politics may be a constitutional amendment.

"In the long run, it may be the only option is a constitutional amendment, which is something the president's talked about in the past," Pfeiffer said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

The decision, made last week, further loosened restrictions on donations individuals can make in each campaign cycle.

Pfeiffer said that in the short term, the answer is to focus on grassroots donations to campaigns, noting that was something at which the Obama campaign excelled in 2008 in 2012, though the Democrats benefited from deep-pocketed donors as well.
